Apple company (NASDAQ: AAPL) Safari exceeded Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ: MSFT) edge is in the battle for the best desktop browser, but there seems to be a third player who is undoubtedly winning the war.
What happened: According to StatCounter, in April 2023, Apple’s Safari browser overtook Microsoft’s Edge, the successor to Internet Explorer, with a global market share of 11.87%, just above Edge’s 11%.

However, while Apple is ahead of Microsoft in the browser competition, both are significantly behind Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Google Chromewhich dominates the market with a staggering 66.13% share of the global market as of last month.
It comes after the three contenders mentioned above Mozilla Fire Fox And Opera Ltd (NASDAQ: OPRA) Internet browser namesake with 5.65% and 3.09% market share.

Why is it important: It was previously reported that Microsoft is integrating artificial intelligence into the Edge browser and the Bing search engine, making use of the same cutting-edge technology that Open AI used in development chat.
Microsoft’s decision to take this step came against the backdrop of the dominance of Google and Chrome in the search and browser sectors, respectively. Whereas in terms of search engine development, Microsoft Bing may have given Google Bard a run for its money. However, it seems that in the browsing sector, Apple has reaped the benefits.
