Best burger in Iowa at Huxley’s

Huxley is home to the best burger in Iowa. The judges in an annual competition sponsored by the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association and the Iowa Beef Industry Council named this year’s Flight Bar + Grille winner, ahead of nine other restaurants that were finalists. Owners Marian and Matt Pasha moved to Huxley six years ago and opened Flight last year, according to a press release from the Iowa Beef Industry Council. Their winning burger, “The Foundation,” is one of six burger options on the menu described as “fresh, never frozen, and sourced exclusively from Midwestern farms.” “Our establishment is a double smash burger with cheddar cheese. It includes mustard aioli, lettuce, tomato, and caramelized onions, and is topped with thick, buttery bacon served between a beautiful, buttery brioche bun,” Katie Boggi, executive chef and kitchen director, said in the release. “We use simple seasonings—salt and pepper—to make the flavor of the beef the star of the burger.” “For every Burger Foundation we sell, we donate $1 to the Ballard Foundation for Education,” Matt Pasha said in the release. It’s important to us to give back to the community, and this is one way we can contribute. “Sales of the organization resulted in more than $3,000 for the organization in Flight’s first year in business,” the statement reads. Hours of operation are 11am-10pm Sunday-Thursday and 11am-11am. to 11 p.m. Friday through Saturday.This year’s competition finalists include Artie’s Ice Cream & Grill in Wilton; Penn’s Burgers in Ankeny; Birdies, Burgers & Brews in Graettinger; Burger & Co. in Spirit Lake; Pete’s Fishback & Stephenson Cider in Fairfield; Foodie Garage Eatery in Dubuque; Jeronimo Bar & Grill in Springbrook; Lounge on Main in downtown; and Troy’s Bar & Grill in Earling. Last year’s winner was The Flying Elbow in Marshalltown. “For every Foundation Burger we sell, we donate $1 to the Ballard Education Foundation,” Matt Pasha said in the statement. “It was the inspiration for the name Burger, and it’s been around since we opened Flight. It’s important to us to give back to the community, and this is one way we can contribute.”

The statement said the organization’s sales resulted in more than $3,000 for the organization in Flight’s first year of operation.

The ride is located at US 931 North Highway 69 in Huxley. Opening hours are 11am-10pm from Sunday to Thursday and 11am-11pm from Friday to Saturday.

Among the finalists in the competition this year are Artie’s Ice Cream & Grill at Wilton; Penn Burger at Ankeny; Birdies, Burgers & Brews in Graettinger; Burger & Co. in Spirit Lake; Fishback & Stephenson Cider House in Fairfield; Foodie Garage Eatery in Dubuque; Jeronimo Bar & Grill in Springbrook; Atrium on Main in downtown; and Troy’s Bar & Grill in Earling.

Last year’s winner was The Flying Elbow in Marshalltown. They hit the jackpot with the “Tombstone Smashburger”.

To qualify, burgers must be 100% beef and served with a bun or bun.
