Met Gala night included like “11 parties” according to a PR outside Dua Lipa’s outrageous party at the Lower East Side club, Virgo. (Fun fact: Karl Lagerfeld was a Virgo.) The number of official parties, though, was actually 10 and the majority were at classic after-party locations in NYC (The Boom Boom Room) or simply uptown (The Mark itself). But Dua Lipa, co-chair of the Met Gala, decided to gather the biggest megawatts of guests at Virgo’s cavernous basement club; A downtown underworld full of smoke machines and Dom Perignon.
The after-meeting party is always an exciting existential crisis; An odd juxtaposition of celebrity and everyday life, and there was no better way to do it than with a Virgo. The nondescript site, which was next to a rental building, was surrounded by a crew of kids and cheerleaders who had been waiting hours to arrive. They had one sighting early on: Billie Eilish, who wore a Lu’u Dan zip-up jacket and backwards baseball cap. But they’ll have to wait a few more hours for the Met Gala attendees to arrive.
Perhaps the wait, though, was worth it: Soon enough, Dua Lipa arrived in a vintage Chanel look consisting of a bra and a pair of knitted pants alongside layers of Chanel necklaces, including a gumball-sized strand of pearls. Throughout the night, with throbbing sets by The Martinez Brothers, Skepta, Jammer and Mia Moretti, familiar faces streamed in, like vibe-squeaky Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz-Beckham (in a short red dress and cape), supermodel Cara Delevingne and the gal’s reps. Margot Robbie and Vanessa Hudgens’ pals, the cheerful Emma Chamberlain, the handsome Trevor Noah, and the angelic Penelope Cruz who seemed to quickly disappear into the crowds of people.
Among couturiers like Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli and Simone Porte Jacquemus was Willy Norris, who wore a long black tailored, insulated trench coat that she made herself under Willy Norris for Outlier. “I love any excuse to look too good,” she jokes. “I feel like I’m struggling Sex and the City Moment.” Also in the mix was SuccessionPrincess Pierce Annabelle Dexter Jones, girl-about-town turned actress.
