Former UFC fighter Felipe Collares has died at the age of 29 after being hit by a bus in Brazil.
Colares’ coach Rodrigo Pape told Brazilian MMA outlet Combate that Colares was returning from training in Rio de Janeiro when he was hit by a bus on Avenida das Américas.
The report stated that the mixed martial arts fighter died of his injuries on his way to hospital.
Kolaris is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, and their 10-month-old son.
As a professional mixed martial arts fighter, Kolaris was 10-4.
He fought six times for the UFC between 2019 and 2022, going 2-4 in the competition.
His final fight in the UFC was at UFC Fight Night this past May, losing to Chase Hopper via KO/TKO.
Kolaris last fought at Ares FC12 in Paris this past February, defeating Alioun Nahi with a first-round chokeslam submission.
“The ARES family sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Felipe Colares,” the campaign said on Instagram.
Corrales went viral earlier this year when he helped arrest a suspected phone thief, holding him until police arrived on the scene.
According to ESPN, Kolares has also worked on Empoderradas, a government program launched to raise awareness of violence against women as well as self-defense instruction.
“Philippe made an enormous contribution through his experience as a multi-champion athlete to help us develop techniques to prevent and deal with violence against women,” Empodiradas’ Instagram account wrote on Monday.
