Iga Swiatek comments on Carlos Alcaraz beating Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic
World No. 1 Iga Swiatek described Carlos Alcaraz’s Madrid title run as “just crazy” as she noted that beting Rafael Nadal and Novak in the same tournament was something extremely difficult to pull off. Alcaraz, who turned 19 last week, gifted himself a first Madrid title for his birthday as he defeated Nadal in the quarter final, before beating world no.
1 Djokovic in the semi final. After beating Nadal and Djokovic in back-to-back matches, Alcaraz dominated Alexander Zverev in the final 6-3 6-1. “I honestly didn’t watch any matches, but I want to watch highlights for sure.
I’m going to do that. I didn’t have time because, like, last couple of days have been really busy for me in terms of practicing. I’m going to do that for sure because what he’s doing is amazing. Yeah, wow, like winning against Rafa and Novak on the same tournament, just crazy,” Swiatek said.
Swiatek on visiting the Nadal museum
After withdrawing from Madrid, Swiatek went to Mallorca, where she prepared ahead of Rome. Swiatek, who often speaks about her love for Nadal, absolutely enjoyed her visit to the Nadal museum.
“For sure it was inspiring. Yeah, you could see all the trophies, which is amazing. Seeing numbers on Wikipedia is one thing, but seeing all the trophies, how consistent he was sometimes in some tournaments, it’s amazing,” Swiatek said.
“Actually I really like this museum. It was not only about Rafa and about tennis, but also about other sports. You could see, like, there was Fernando Alonso Formula 1 where he won world championships. Yeah, it was just interesting because you could see the sports, not only tennis, not only what Rafa did, so that’s nice.”
Last year, Swiatek clinched her first Rome title. This week, Swiatek is hoping to make another strong run in Rome and finish her French Open preparation on a strong way.
