Jojo Siwa is giving her followers the hair news they need.
the Dance Moms alum, 19, took to TikTok on Tuesday to share the reason why she has a bald spot on one side of her head. While some fans speculated that the hair loss was from her famous high ponytail — which she sported for years before cutting her hair into a short crop in April — Siwa said there was a different reason behind the spot.
“It’s actually not from the ponytails,” she noted, before adding, “When I was little, I had a really bad stress rash right here on Dance Momsand I would pick at it all day long, and I damaged every single hair follicle that has ever been there.”
Siwa’s followers showed their support for the star in the comments section. One wrote, “No need to explain! We definitely understand, I go through stress so much! We love you Jojo.” Another shared, “I have trichotillomania and I deal with hair pulling all the time. Shout out to others who are struggling.”
In May, Siwa spoke to The View about her decision to cut off her hair. The openly queer content creator — who said she was thrilled when her team was excited about the decision to change up her iconic look — shared, “I’ve learned that I like to dress more feminine now with this hair, with jewelry and necklaces and makeup, because my hair is short. But I think it’s great that I get to break a stereotype of like, a feminine girl can have short hair now. It’s nice.”
In a recent interview with Yahoo Life, Siwa spoke about feeling more confident in her skin than ever before.
“I’m really proud of what my body’s looking like right now,” the former reality star explained. “For me, I’ve always wanted my body to look a certain way since I was a very young age. And, you know, I think all bodies are beautiful. Absolutely. Every time I have this, like, little pooch area in my belly, I always say, ‘That’s where my baby’s gonna go one day.’ It’s like, we have these bodies and we have these legs and these arms and these faces that are able to do such magical things — and our senses. We need to spend less time shaming them and more time appreciating them.”
