Lucas Moura outlines Tottenham transfer exit plan and reveals key detail in his Spurs contract

Lucas Moura has revealed that his plan is to exit Tottenham when his contract in north London comes to an end. Signed from Paris Saint-Germain in January 2018, the Brazilian has been a favorite of his managers during his time at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and has so far made 202 appearances for the club.

Dropping down the pecking order following the January arrival of Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas has been mentioned in regards to a possible exit this summer as part of the big changes set to take place in N17. Contracted to Tottenham until the summer of 2024 after penning fresh terms three months after his Champions League semi-final heroics against Ajax in May 2019, Lucas has confirmed in his homeland that his current deal actually has one more year to run and will expire in 2023 , with Tottenham then having the option of extending for an extra 12 months.

Once his contract does come to an end, the attacker has made it clear that is when he will be depart Tottenham and be free to decide where he is heading next.

“The idea is to fulfill the contract. It has one more year, with the option of one more, on the part of the club. So at the end of this season now, if the club wants to extend another year, they have that option,” he told Brazilian journalist Andre Hernan (via Sport Witness).

“But my idea is this. Finalizing the contract, playing in the Champions League, we haven’t played the Champions League for two years, and now it could be, perhaps, my last Champions League there at Tottenham. So then the idea is to stay there, fulfill the contract, then be free, then decide where I’m going.”

Starting his career with Brazilian club Sao Paulo, the Tottenham man has been linked with a return to his home city numerous times in recent years. Asked if a loan move to his first club could be a possibility, Lucas explained why that is incredibly unlikely to happen.

“Man, that would be a very big possibility. Very strong,” he admitted. “But I find it difficult, I find the loan issue difficult, because, as I said, in a year I will be free. So it wouldn’t make sense for them to loan me so I could go free, you know?

“Knowing also that they can count on me in a Champions League year. I don’t know. So it will depend on Tottenham. Now it’s much more up to Tottenham than to me. But I find the possibility of a difficult loan.”
