May 2023 Android Security Update is available now, and it will be rolling out to Pixel phones

The May 2023 Pixel security update is available, along with a few more additions


It’s the first Monday of the new month, which means it’s time for a new Android security update bulletin to be released. Thus, it comes as no surprise that today Google published its May 203 Android Security Bulletin and a new security update is being rolled out to all eligible Pixel phones.


Android Security Bulletin May 2023

As usual, the May 2023 Security Bulletin is divided into two different patch levels. There are patches for Android open source components (without Linux Kernel patches) under the 2023-05-01 security patch level. On the other hand, patches for the rest of the affected components are contained within releases that carry the 2023-05-05 security patch level. Pixel Update Bulletin / Functional Update

On top of the security vulnerabilities described in the public Android security update bulletin, there are also some bug fixes for the Google Pixel family of devices. Described in the May 2023 Pixel update bulletin. The full changelog for this month’s functional update can be found below:

The May 2023 security update is gradually starting to hit the Pixel 7 series and any older devices like the OG Pixel 4a in the form of a software build. TQ2A.230505.002. Some carrier models will have a slightly different version with TQ2A.230505.002.A1 Tag building.
