DURHAM, NC — Right-handed Austin Gordon pitched a solid 6.0 innings to lead No. 5 Clemson to a 4-1 victory over No. 19 Boston College in the ACC Championship Game at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Friday. The Tigers, who went 2-0 in the tournament and advanced to the semifinals on Saturday, won their 14th straight game and brought their record to 41-17. The Eagles fell to 35-18.
Gordon (2-4) earned the win by allowing only two hits, no runs and three walks on three hits. Ryan Ammons retired the final batter to record her fifth save of the year. Eagles’ Chris Flynn (7-3) struggled with the loss, striking out four runs on three hits in 2.0 innings pitched.
The Tigers hit first in the first inning on a homer by Caden Grace, his 16th of the season. Clemson doubled the lead in the second half on two runs off Jack Creighton. Nick Wang put Boston College on the scoreboard with a solo homer in the ninth inning.
By winning Group C, the Tigers advance to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament to play North Carolina this Saturday at 5 p.m. on the ACC Network. Clemson is the team’s home designee and will occupy the third base dugout.
