No way out for Neymar
Even Paris Saint Germain are in need of cutting some costs this summer and the sale of neymar would greatly ease some of the economic tension at the club after Kylian Mbappe‘s recent renewal.
However, the Brazilian’s high price tag and extortionate wagers make such a scenario almost impossible.
Based on PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi‘s comments to MARCA, the club are looking for a change of identity, one that Neymar no longer fits into.
“We want young, talented, committed players with a winning mentality, people who want to die for this badge,” said Nasser Al-Khelaifi in an exclusive interview with MARCA.
“We want to be stronger collectively, to play as a team and for the club to be above all.”
It is clear that Neymar has gone from supposedly the missing piece of the PSG jigsaw back when he signed from Barcelona to now being a burden.
Al-Khelaifi neither confirmed nor denied the possible departure of the former Barcelona man.
“We can’t talk about it in the media, some will come and some will go, but these are private negotiations,” he said.
It’s not easy to get rid of Neymar. Quite the opposite, in fact. The 222 million euros that PSG paid Barcelona made the Brazilian the most expensive transfer in history. Recouping the investment, obviously, seems impossible. Not even helped.
The other obstacle that makes the sale of Neymar near impossible is his high salary. The former Barcelona player was, until Mbappe’s renewal, the highest paid player at PSG and in Ligue 1: he earns 48.9 million euros gross and has a contract until 2025.
