Don’t worry, it’s just a dress.

Olivia Wilde took it as a compliment that Vogue China Editor-in-Chief Margaret Zhang showed up to the 2023 Met Gala wearing the exact same dress she did — but in black.

“Brilliant minds 😎,” Olivia captioned a side-by-side photo of the ladies on her Instagram Story on Tuesday. “If you’re going to twin with anyone, make it @margaretzhangn 😍.”

Zhang retweeted Wilde’s message to her own page, adding, “CUE THE STRINGS.”

Both women were inspired by the classic 1983 Chloe dress designed by Karl Lagerfeld, which was the honoree for the night.

Lagerfeld modeled for Chloé from 1963 to 1983, and again from 1992 to 1997, when he created an elegant dress that featured a gold violin cutout on the front.

Wilde collaborated with Chloe to recreate Carl’s original design by extending the hem, turning the cap sleeves into a cape, and outlining the violin’s shape with gold beads.

She accessorized the look with gilded bangles and a gold bag, similar to how she was presented on the runway 40 years ago.

Creative Director @GabrielaHearst has lovingly reimagined Chloé’s Spring/Summer 1983 “Angkor” knee-length dress by Karl Lagerfeld as a floor-length gown in opaque ivory silk, complete with a slit back and cape, hand-beaded cuffs and gold-stitched embroidery detailing and tubular beads that form a trompe l’oeil silhouette. Meanwhile, Chang made minor alterations to the dress, adding a long train that sprouted from the neckline and gold sequin detailing along the hem.

The Vogue editor kept her accessories minimal, simply donning a pair of black sunglasses and a thin gold bracelet.

Wilde first attended the Met Ball in 2013 and then again in 2015 with then-boyfriend Jason Sudeikis. The last time she was present was in 2016 when she wore a black beaded halter dress by Michael Kors on the “Manus x Machina” red carpet.

While this appears to be Zhang’s first time at the star-studded soiree, he is sure to become a fixture at the ball in the future.

Zhang was appointed editor-in-chief of Vogue China in February 2021 at the age of just 27.
