Roger Goodell and Brian Roberts talk about a Comcast-NFL dispute

The NFL Network exited Comcast’s Xfinity cable system on Monday. There is an urgent need to change that.

John Aurand Sports Business Journal NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Comcast CEO Brian Roberts reportedly spoke on the phone Monday afternoon to try to resolve the situation.

On Monday, NFL Network went dark on Xfinity. Aurand suggests that Gödel called Roberts in an effort to work things out.

Comcast and the NFL sparred in the early years of the NFL Network’s existence. Comcast has since purchased NBC, one of the league’s broadcast partners.

Now that the draft is over, there is little urgency to resolve the situation in the short term. Ourand expects an agreement will eventually be reached.

The outage also affects NFL Red Zone, which won’t be an issue until the first week of the 2023 season, obviously.
