The Super Mega Baseball series is preparing for its fourth entry into the batter’s box, and this time, it’s introducing a slew of upgrades and improvements, likely thanks to its new publisher, EA Sports. Electronic Arts acquired developer Metalhead Studio a year after Super Mega Baseball 3 launched, meaning the developer capitalized on creating this fourth entry with the added resources of its new parent company.
The result is clear. For the first time in the series’ history, more than 200 sports legends (including cover star David Ortiz) are included on the list along with a cast of fan favorites from previous games in the series. You can get your hands on the new roster and enjoy the different modes in several ways, including the League of Legends Baseball with teams organized by era. You can also use the new Shuffle Draft feature that allows you to craft a unique roster of real-life Legends and Super Mega All-Stars.
Of course, the standard exhibition, franchise, pennant race, season, and online leagues are present in Super Mega Baseball 4. However, it includes various new improvements, including cross-play on all platforms for the Pennant Race and Online Leagues. The set of modes also includes expanded player attributes, a new team chemistry system, auto walks, two-way players, expanded revolutions, customizable free agent combos, and more. The audio and visual aspects also receive an upgrade, with new crowd sounds, soundtracks, sound effects, licensed and original music, better lighting, and new cameras.

Super Mega Baseball has proven to be a less serious but fun alternative to the MLB series The Show for years now, and it looks like EA Sports and Metalhead Studio are really making a push with this year’s entry. We’ll have to wait and see how much these changes affect the series’ popularity without an actual MLB license, but the strong foundation from previous entries appears to be alive and well, and all the improvements seem like great steps in the right direction.
Super Mega Baseball 4 arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on June 2.
