After not selecting a tackle until the fourth round of the NFL Draft this weekend, the Jets are on the verge of signing veteran Billy Turner.
It seems likely that a veteran signing was up for the job. Turner makes sense because he played for the Packers from 2019 through 2021 and the Broncos in 2022. He’s been coached by current Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett at both locations. Aaron Rodgers was also effusive in his praise of Turner when the two played together in Green Bay.
In fact, the 31-year-old Turner has a great track record but he is coming off an injury ridden season where he started just seven games. Hope to return.
The Jets’ first two tackles are slated to be soon, Duane Brown and Mekhi Becton, 38, who has basically missed two straight seasons. The team had to add some depth after the draft. With the addition of Turner, the Jets did just that.
